Tryouts recap

The tryouts are over. They started on Saturday early in the morning with small sided games and finished with a couple of regular games. I was helping the coaching staff out on Saturday and Sunday morning and could form my own opinion. There were definitely some talented players in there and some experienced players with a proven record … but also some players that would probably not even make the cut for a PDL team. I am wondering with what expectations some players come to these tryouts? Is it just a kick around for them or do they seriously believe they can make money playing soccer?

Now the coaches will make up their mind, will talk to players, get in contract negotiations and by the end of the week we hopefully should know who will be signed and who will be invited back to train with us during the indoor practices (our inofficial preseason that starts this week). I think there were some good center backs at the tryout, but it is always a gamble how they fit in with the first team. The upcoming indoor practice might also not be the best way to evaluate the skills of a Center Back, but I am confident in Leigh and Jesse’s experience.

On a personal note: I don’t believe I saw a left back out there, so my projection is that I will be playing my second year as a defender this season ;)

Here are some pictures I took during the tryout:

A really great read. And really nice photos too. Are you trying to put me out of a job? ;-)
